Pros:

  • Prototype Skillset - Ben Sinnott possesses a balanced skillset that looks like the perfect modern tight end. High in-line usage. A third of his snaps coming in the slot. He demonstrated consistent pass-catching ability mixed with an ability to get the job done as a blocker.
  • Vertical Threat - He posted a top ten average depth of target among all tight ends over the last two seasons in college football. Whether it's over the middle, on wheel routes, up the seam, or out of the back field Sinnott gets downfield and creates space for himself.
  • Spatial Awareness - He knows exactly where defenders are and how to create space for himself even if initially it doesn't look like anything is there. He knows when to sit down in zone, but can also stack defensive backs when necessary to give his quarterback a larger target window.

Cons:

  • Questionable Athleticism - Sinnott was a former walk-on, and at times it shows. He gets chased down and lacks the top gear that elite tight end prospects usually possess. His first step can be quick enough, but some evaluators will question his overall athleticism.
  • Pass Blocking - He struggled in pass protection in 2022, so Kansas State decided to hide that issue in 2023. Sinnott is clearly used better as a receiver than a blocker, but when he does stay in to block on passing downs the results are inconsistent.
  • Physicality - He can be physical enough to block in the run game, but only wins in contested reception situations about a third of the time. Sinnott has to improve and win more physically if he wants to succeed in the NFL.

Player Evaluation:

Ben Sinnott is a well-rounded tight end prospect with prototypical NFL size and a pro-style skillset that should garner early snaps. However, there is concern that he may not be athletic or strong enough to dominate at the NFL level in the same way that he did against Big 12 competition in his final collegiate season.

Player Role/Comp:

Floor Comp: Depth rotational tight end

Sinnott may have requisite abilities to check boxes in most all categories, but if he doesn't improve his physicality and athleticim he may be relegated to a fringe 53-man roster player.

Ceiling Comp: Dalton Schultz with better vertical ability

Ben Sinnott quite often maximizes his ability with technique to offset his lack of elite athleticism. If he harnesses that consistency at the pro level his underrated receiving ability could make him one of the most productive tight ends in the NFL.
